Evan Moore

Hello everyone, my name is Evan Moore and I am one of the assistant drum majors. I am from Spring, Texas where I attended Oak Ridge High School. My major is Music education with my primary instrument being saxophone. I am entering into my 5th year of SOSA and my second year as one of the drum majors. The reason I love this organization is because it gives me a family and home away from my actual home. It provided me with a bunch of wonderful friends, colleagues, mentors, and memories which I wouldn’t trade for anything. It also led me to becoming a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia! Joining The Spirit of San Antonio is the best decision I have ever made!

Jonny Espinoza

My name is Jonny Espinoza, a senior from Burleson, TX. I am one of the assistant drum majors for the Spirit of San Antonio. Although I began my musical studies in middle school on trumpet, my primary instrument is my voice. I am a voice performance (music) major here at UTSA. This is my third year of school and of SOSA, and my second year as a drum major. Even though I am a singer, I wanted to be a part of SOSA because of the significance marching band has had in my life. I enjoy being a part of the most spirited group of people on campus, and making our campus more exciting and full of energy. SOSA holds a dear place in my heart, and I am glad I joined.

My favorite quote is from an old friend of mine from high school. He was our drum major for a few years and a well-respected leader in our band and school. One day on a trip as we were getting on the bus, he was asked to impart some wisdom to us. He turned around and gave us a brief, but clear message:

Alexander Williams

My name is Alexander Williams and I am from the Houston area, more specifically Spring on the north side. I am a senior and majoring in Communication with a concentration in public relations. I am a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and I am also the Vice President of Membership for the Mu Tau Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Service Fraternity. I am one of the newest assistant drum majors, and this will be my fourth year in SOSA and second year on staff. There is only one reason why I am in SOSA! That reason can be described with one word: Family.

"The love of family and the admiration of friends is much more important than wealth and privilege". Charles Kurlat couldn't have expressed how important family is by saying this quote. For my first 2 years of SOSA, I was unable to attend band camp due to family issues and I ultimately was not able to march pre-game. I thought my section, the baritones at that time, would look down on me and not make me feel welcomed in a college marching band. I figured this because everyone is scared of the unknown. I cannot begin to express how wrong I was and how welcomed I felt my first day at practice by SOSA! My advice to anyone who happens to read this and is on the fence about joining SOSA: you don't regret it. From the night practices and game days at the alamodome, you will experience what it truly means to be ROWDY! You won't feel homesick because your SOSA family will keep you happy and engaged with not only the campus but also within your academics. Join SOSA today and find out why we are the Spirit of San Antonio. Go Runners!
