Meet your 2017 Percussion Staff!

Jesse Garza

What's up guys, my name is Jesse Garza, and here's a little bit about me. I am from San Antonio, Texas and attended Claudia Taylor “Lady Bird” Johnson high school. I am a computer science major and will be in my sophomore year of college. This will be my second season with the Spirit of San Antonio and I couldn't be more excited to be y'all’s snare captain. For me, SOSA is a nice break from academics and a great way to keep music apart of your life throughout college if you're not a music major. I am also a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia!

My favorite quote is “where words fail, music speaks.” - Hans Christian Andersen.

Last year was amazing and I have no doubt this year will be anything short of that; I look forward to meeting you all, and, as always, go runners!

Michael Reyes

Hello SOSA, my name is Michael Reyes. I am from the middle of nowhere otherwise known as Brady, Texas. This year, I will be a junior and look forward to be playing in the front ensemble. This will be my second season being a part of SOSA and my first being a part of staff. I chose to join SOSA because I have been a part of marching band ever since middle school, and I loved it so much that I had to keep it going. I am also a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia! I hope everyone is looking forward to a fun season and if you are ever going through troubles remember this quote, "God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference."

Raymond Herrera

Hometown/School: Texas City HS/Texas City, TX

Major: Music Composition

Classification: Senior

Instrument: Battery

This will be my fourth year in SOSA and my third year on staff! There are many reasons why I keep doing SOSA, but to me it's one big diverse family of people from different places and with different stories. What's so great about it, is that we are all here to do the same thing. We are here to make music while running around on the football field! I am also a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia!

"To me, it's so simple that life should be lived on the edge of life. You have to exercise rebellion, to refuse to taper yourself to rules, to refuse your own success, to refuse to repeat yourself. And then you are going to live your life on a tightrope. I know its impossible, but I know I will do it." - Phillippe Petit

I am very flexible amongst sections, as I jump across the realms of woodwinds, percussion, and brass on almost a daily basis. My primary instrument is Saxophone, but I've also marched with several Drum Corps the past few years in the horn line. The most notably was with the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2016. If you have any questions about me, feel free to ask!

Marquis Anderson

This will be my third year on staff with the cymbals! I've been a part of SOSA because I love playing cymbals and the people!

Krishna: "Actions do not cling to me because I am not attached to their results. Those who understand this and practice it live in freedom."
